January 2022 Chain of Custody certification mandatory for packers and traders GLOBALG.A.P. products

The deadline for achieving GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody has again been postponed to 1 January 2023 and for certain exceptions even to 31 December 2023. As of that date, all companies wishing to continue trading or packaging GLOBALG.A.P. products must be certified for the Chain of Custody standard (CoC).

Please see the attached official press release from GLOBALG.A.P.: Chain of Custody implementation (globalgap.org)

WHAT IS GLOBALG.A.P. COC?

GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody shows that a product with a GGN number is guaranteed to come from a GLOBALG.A.P.-certified grower. More information about GLOBALG.A.P CoC can be found on the GLOBALG.A.P. website.

A GSFI-approved certificate (IFS Food, BRC Food or IFS Broker) is no longer sufficient.

HOW DO I MEET THE COC REQUIREMENT?

To comply with the requirement, for example, companies that sell products with a GGN number, or have customer agreements stating that products must be GLOBALG.A.P. certified, must obtain an additional certification.

Depending on the certification body, the audits can be combined with a GFSI scheme and the GLOBALG.A.P.-Chain of Custody scheme.
