GeoGAP development for Georgian dairy sector completed

In December 2021, Q-Point completed the GFP-2020-PROC-0029 project in Georgia, with Land O’Lakes Venture37 and GFA (Georgian Farmers’ Association). The result was the launch of a new GeoGAP (the local primary production standard) module, GeoGAP Dairy.

The new GeoGAP module for dairy was presented at an event organised by GFA. The event was attended by government officials, certifiers, companies, donor organisations and farmers involved in the dairy sector.

GOAL AND LONG-TERM GOAL

The GeoGAP standard aims to facilitate the introduction of food safety and quality standards for dairy production. The long-term goal is to ensure stable access to farmers’ markets by improving local dairy farming practices.

GeoGAP Dairy focuses on safe and responsible use of medicines, registration, animal health, traceability, animal welfare, milk hygiene and feed. Farmers who implement and can demonstrate this standard are on their way to becoming more professional. Good administration provides insight. Records are used for analyses and based on the analyses improvements can be made. GeoGAP Dairy is an extra module of GeoGAP Fruits & Vegetables.
