Gender Sensitive Value Chain Management in Sudan

Last week, our colleague Lisa was in Khartoum for NUFFIC project: Gender Sensitive Agricultural Vocational Training for Promoting Female entrepreneurship in Sudan. Together with co-trainer and international agribusiness expert Bob van der Bijl (Maastricht School Of Management), she was training a group of 25 participants (researchers, lecturers and staff members of SOS Children’s Villages and INMAAI Center for Agricultural Training) on how to assess and improve agricultural value chains in Sudan through a gender lens.
How to conduct a value chain assessment using various tools and frameworks was discussed on the first day to gain a general understanding of value chain management. Since the training focus was on the practical approach, the second day included a field visit to various value chain actors in the fruit and vegetable sector in Sudan around Khartoum. Eventually, theory and practice were combined by means of developing interventions suitable to the local context and based on role-play scenarios with stakeholders. Actual stakeholders were invited on the last day to participate in discussions about gender sensitive value chain improvements and how to move forward towards more inclusive and future proof agricultural value chains. Thank you very much, Dr. Afaf Aljuzuli from The Ministry Of Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Zubeir from Microfinance fields and entrepreneur Eng Gismatelkhalig for sharing your experience and position as service providers and policymakers in Sudan.
Thank you Mohamed Alhadi, Ismael Husam and Mubarak for organising the training at SOS training hall and for all the support. Thank you Ragi Osman Ibrahim for translating the entire training and thank you, all participants for your active participation. It was a great week, we hope to be back soon.
