Q-POINT WINS THE FOOD VALLEY AWARD 2016

On Thursday 13 October the winner of the Food Valley Award 2016 was announced at Conference Center Papendal in Arnhem. Q-Point has developed an approach to reduce food waste in the hospitality industry and is the proud winner of this prestigious award.

“The jury is impressed with this innovation, with which not only great efficiency in working can be achieved by smart linking systems and data, but with which a change in thinking within the hospitality sector seems to be happening. The developed innovative approach is widely received positive within the sector and seems to be suited very well for a broader use. A unique initiative with large potential. It is fair to say this is an innovation that is worth the Food Valley Award 2016.”

Commissioned by Royal Burgers’ Zoo Q-Point started a project in 2012 to reduce the amount of avoidable food waste in their restaurants with 50%. First the consumption behaviour of the visitors was studied. After that the processes in the restaurants were optimised, reducing the food waste considerably. Furthermore a prediction programme was developed for the amount of visitors. This all resulted in a new way of working and thinking in the restaurants and the results surpass all expectations. It turns out that the restaurants in the zoo have 75% less waste and they realise the same turnover with almost 30% fewer purchase. The Apenheul has joined the initiative and more companies in the hospitality branch have shown their interest.
