Developing and implementing a data collection and management strategy (5966-OL-Q-POINT)

KENYA

OBJECTIVE

The overall objective of this project is to develop and implement a data collection and management strategy for FPEAK that will provide efficient and quality horticulture data to the horticulture sector.

FPEAK

The Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya (FPEAK) is Kenya’s premier trade association representing growers, exporters and service providers in the horticulture industry. FPEAK supports growers and exporters by providing technical and marketing information and training, acting as an information centre, and running active lobbying and advocacy programmes to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.

DATA NEEDS

One of the key roles of any exporters association is to represent its members. Without (aggregated) data on the performance of its members, the association cannot fulfil its representation role and lobby on behalf of the members. Different data sets can be collected and presented in various ways depending on the objectives of the association and the target group the association interacts with, including its members.

STRATEGY

Q-Point develops a data collection and management strategy in line with the strategic objectives of FPEAK. The strategy includes a critical evaluation of the urgent data needs (must-haves), versus nice-to-haves and translates it into a pragmatic implementation road map. It takes into account access to existing data sources (e.g. export volumes, interceptions), the internal capacity of FPEAK to collect, store, treat and update the data, and their capacity to outsource part of this work.
