Reduction of food waste at Dutch supermarkets

Project description
Corporate social responsibility is integrated into the daily operations of many supermarkets. Q-Point investigated for them the possibility to optimize the sales period.  When you purchase food items at your local grocery store or supermarket, you may notice a printed “best before date” on the packaging.  As we have learned, most food is still edible after these printed expiration dates have passed.
Q Point consultants visited some of the largest suppliers of fresh products for the assortment group ‘Ready to cook’. During these visits, several issues were discussed in relation to the “best before date”: information about loss of product, laws and standards, risk analysis, product development and production process. Based on the analysis, clients were advised how to optimize the “best before date” without any consequences regarding quality and food safety.
